All Stars Tournament: Round Two

Round one of the competition heats up when past contestants from The Next Food Network Star open their appetizer round baskets to find offal and a sweet treat and Something offal happens to one contestant with time management. Then, in the entrée round, the chefs face a challenge when they discover an unusually bitter vegetable in the mystery basket. And, the creative juices flow when the two finalists must whip up desserts using Indian cheese and carrots in efforts to advance to the finale.

Meal[]

Appetizer[]

Ingredients: Calves Liver, Mango, Bottarga, Pound Cake

Lisa delivered creativity with her dish but ran out of time to plate the other three basket ingredients: mango, pound cake, and calves liver; which left her to only serve her Bottarga Deviled Eggs and Crostini.

Debbie made a Seared Liver with Griddled Pound Cake. The judges earn praise to her liver and mango but the pound cake was burnt.

Michael's Seared Liver with Bottarga Mango Salsa earned overall praise from the judges despite Marcus' complaint of the ratio size of the cake.

Brad did a Seared Liver with Mango Bottarga Chutney which also excelled in the judging and like Michael, the portion size of his cake was large.

Debbie and Lisa are instantly in the bottom two and with three missing basket ingredients, Chef Lisa was chopped despite earning praise from judge Alex in her dish.

Entrée[]

Ingredients: Karela, Blueberries, Fregola, Scottish Red Leg Partridge

Debbie's Blanched Partridge with Blueberry Karela Sauce impressed with the clarity of the dish, but her blueberry karela sauce was too bitter while her partridge was overcooked.

Michael is able to blanch the karela to cook out its bitterness for his Pan Roasted Partridge with Fregola Sauté, albeit disjointed, but it didn't feature heavily enough. His bird was dry but the sauce helped kept the protein moist while Alex and Marcus had mixed reviews of the coating.

Brad's Herb Roasted Partridge with Fregola Salad won praise for the cooking of the protein but he served raw slices of karela which Marcus noted.

He cooked the bird well out of the three while Michael is able to utilise the karela. But after serving overcooked partridge and a bitter sauce, it was Chef Debbie who was chopped, becoming the second All-Star contestant eliminated in the tournament.

Dessert[]

Ingredients: Red Carrots, Goat Butter, Paneer, Potato Crisps

Michael's dessert of Panner Crouton with Glass Carrot was liked by the judges, except Alex, for its creativity.

Brad also delivered creativity with his Red Carrot Pudding with Paneer Crema but Marcus and Marc noted that they couldn't taste the core basket ingredients to his dessert.

Chef Brad fared well throughout the previous rounds but his execution of the basket ingredients in his dessert let him down, eliminating him from the tournament. Michael became the first All-Stars contestant to be named Chopped Champion and advances to the finale.
