Born Edward R. Allen, Ted Allen is an American writer and television personality. He was the go-to food and wine expert on Bravo network's Emmy Award-winning program Queer Eye (formerly Queer Eye for the Straight Guy). He is now a host on the Food Network for Chopped, a culinary competition in which four chefs per mo episode attempt to cook their way through three courses to win a $10,000 prize, and Food Detectives, which uses scientific experiments to test myths about certain selected foods.

Television CareerEdit

In 2003 Allen gained great public notoriety, when he became a cast member of the hit reality television series Queer Eye for the Straight Guy as their food and wine specialist. He made numerous television appearances as a gourmet, and was a frequent guest judge on Food Network's Iron Chef America. Starting May 7, 2007 Allen hosted a six-part PBS documentary entitled "Uncorked: Wine Made Simple." In June of 2007, he began appearing as a regular judge on seasons 3 and 4 of Bravo's reality television series Top Chef, after making several guest judge appearances during the first two seasons. Allen left Bravo Network in 2008, after Food Network offered him the host job on Food Detectives, which debuted in July, 2008, and Chopped, which is currently in it's fourteenth season. Since his move to the Food Network, Allen has made guest appearances on many of its programs, such as Paula's Party and multiple episodes of Best Thing I Ever Ate, Dear Food Network, and The Next Food Network Star. In November of 2008, Allen returned to Iron Chef America as a floor reporter for the show's Thanksgiving special.
